The weather remains hot and breezy, which is lovely. I'm beginning to suffer some of the bad sides of Herräng, e.g. cough and mosquito bites, mental fatigue, stiff muscles and sore joints, perpetual hunger. I'm still having a ball, though. :-) Yesterday I had my first two lessons with Frida, accompanied by Skye. She is a real superstar. She can light up the whole room just by willing it so. I have written up the lesson in my notebook, but in summary they did technique through choreography, which I like. It's a partner routine with lots of dynamic contrast. There is a jazz section in the middle, and a fast free follow turn. The third lesson was with Sugar and Barbara. For the first five minutes they made us do exactly the opposite technique to what Skye and Frida had taught us, in every respect. Probably just a coincidence but it was quite funny. They taught us "what we did in the Savoy Ballroom to slow music". It was not Slow Drag, which was usually done at private parties, apparently. Lots of laughs as the two old ladies showed us how to be sexy. Today I had my first two lessons from Peter Strom, accompanied by Naomi whom I could watch dancing for hours. All solo stuff, on the grounds that the way you move is more important when the music is slow. Very interesting. Not sure I could reproduce this class in Cambridge, but I wish I could. I have established a stock of food and drink and I'm eating as often as I can. I'm not thinking too much about how much I am spending on food; it is a false economy! Now I must go to Dawn Hampton's talk.
