Old JRider tracks
Due to further changes to the track generator, this whole page is out of date now, but parts of it might still be useful.
Here are some tracks that people have suggested to me. I've
classified the tracks in a completely arbitrary way, and I'm open for
suggestions as to how I should do it instead.
Please note: these are only suggestions. You are not limited to
tracks listed here. Just type in anything. Punctuation and case is
ignored, so "King Lear!" and kinglear are the
same.
This information is slightly out of date, since I fixed a bug in the track generator.
Roman roads
These tracks have no corners! This makes them generally easy but
extremely fast. From flat to hilly:
- lap Perfectly straight, and smooth too. Fastest track yet found.
- Tom Minimise steering to get a good time.
- Minacksoft
- Senegal This track has a JUMP. The main
limit on your lap time is that when you're going fast your wheels fall
off when you land!
- straight No track could be perfectly straight on this landscape!
Like a real race track
These tracks are the ones which, in my opinion, feel most like a
real race track. They have long straights, slight gradients and sharp
corners, and could have been designed to test your driving. Only one of
them has an implausible crossroads, and it's fairly harmless. These are
also quite fast.
- Antony This is the track that the Java Web Start version
of the game plays.
- neigunwibu One of the best.
- King Lear
- Zoe Clearly the most expensive track to build. The
landscape is quite uninhabitable.
- Eben Hope you like turning left.
- Silverstone Unusually long for a simple loop.
- Artichoke Shaped more like an aubergine, actually. Challenging.
- track Rewards caution.
Scenic
These tracks are the most beautiful, not that you'll have time to
admire them, of couse. Naturally, big mountains make the views more
impressive.
- Tokyo Mind the crossroads - if you crash here you'll fall
for about a minute!
- seed Lethal penultimate corner. I like this track.
- Monty Python A bit silly.
- wombat
- meringue Loops-the-loop twice, presumably to give you a second chance to see the view.
- London A wonderful track! Swiss-style corners for climbing and descending through the trees, interspersed with great long ridge-ways. Nice and fast too.
- Oxford Not quite straight enough to be a Roman Road, and steep enough for comedy catastrophe.
Drive in the country
These ones look like real roads.
- Edgar Allen Poe One harmless crossroads.
- Cambridge Zig-zags to climb and descend hills.
- hybrid Almost straight, but you do sometimes need the brakes.
- aubergine The landscape is smooth enough to make an off-road strategy tempting, but I find on-road is a little faster.
- Thinkpad Crosses the world several times and has one rude corner.
- Brands Hatch Great first corner: it's sharp, but at the bottom of a dip, so you have enough down-force to take it at full speed. The last corner is exactly the opposite: deceptively dangerous.
- curvy Beautifully engineered through a rather bleak landscape. Includes an unusually steep descent.
- carrot Hazardous.
Implausible
Some tracks don't look much like a road, but nonetheless make a
groovy obstacle course.
- Magical Mystery Tour How many corners?
- ElizabethAnneCoats One of the hardest. Features a ski
jump.
- 01234567890qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm Not only is it
impossible to complete a lap of this course without falling a good 10
metres, it also brings a whole new meaning to the word "chicane".
- jhgjhgggg Your mission is to complete a lap. When the
beacons veer off a perfectly good road and over a huge cliff, control
your fear, suppress your incredulity, stifle your gasp, and bravely dive
after them. Then climb out the other side. No, I'm not proud of my
algorithm's output in this case! Quite amusing, though.
- fuck I would gladly have omitted this track, but it is actually shaped like a slip-knot, which is very cool. The five cross-roads necessary for this feat of topology are all perfectly drivable.
- tea This track is extremely long, has about forty corners (depending on how you count them) and features a 1 in 2 descent (just steep enough to go off the bottom of the screen). Having said that, it's surprisingly easy, and quite understandable given the dramatic landscape. Slowest track yet found.
More coming...
...when you send them in! The address is "jrider" at
"minworks.co.uk".
Lap records
I've no proof of any of these claims, but it'll be obvious if you're cheating. Rules: use whatever settings you want, take as many laps as you want, and quote the time printed on the screen "for best lap". Send entries to "jrider" at "minworks.co.uk".
These times are from before I fixed a bug in the Track generator.

The only reason my name and Julian's appear embarrassingly often in the table is that this is a rather new part of the site. I trust you'll replace us soon.
