Alistair's Kitchen
Rough drawings for the kitchen at 69 Great Eastern St, CB1 3AB. I'm hoping to have this work completed before June 2025.
Contents
The diagrams in the before and after folders correspond. Each includes:
- a scale bar
- a plan view
- an elevation looking North and one looking South
- an elevation looking West and one looking East
The diagrams are in SVG (scalable vector graphics) format. They can be edited using Inkscape, and viewed using a wide variety of software, including web browsers.
The units I'm using are cm, and measurements are accurate to about +- 2cm. The main source of inaccuracy is that I've drawn everything as if it is square. I've tried to get the internal measurements right, but I did not accurately measure the thickness of exterior walls, doors and windows.

- Construction:
- Demolish an internal wall CD

- Remove obsolete pipes and taps behind the washing machine
- Plumb washing machine
- Plumb dishwasher

Wren Kitchens' design
Wren Kitchens kindly did a quote for me, and gave me these renders of their design:

3.
The notable differences from my plan are:
- The fridge and washing machine are swapped.
- The broom cupboard / coat hanging area has a door on it.
- There's storage above the hob.
- The oven is 60cm tall.
The South wall (EA) is blank because they didn't have suitable units in their range; I would like to install shelves along that wall as in my plan. Similarly, we decided I would supply my own combi oven and my own fridge freezer, as their range was limited and expensive. They recommended a 60cm tall oven and a separate microwave, but I think I might prefer a 60cm tall combi oven, which does exist.
Magnet Kitchens' design
Magnet kitchens kindly did a quote for me and gave me
some renders
of their design. Similar decisions to Wren Kitchens' design.
Howdens' design
Howdens kindly did a quote for me, and gave me these renders of their design:

Similar decisions to Wren and Magnet, except:
- There's 10cm of wasted space against the east wall, in case it proves impossible to remove the old door post completely. Probably it is possible.
- The draining board is on the left of the sink, above the dishwasher. They said it would be awkward to have it on the right.
- The depth of the work surface on the south wall is increased from 20cm to 30cm.
- The water meter is missing, and I think one post is in slightly the wrong place as a result. There is a panel behind the shelves on the south wall, which should perhaps be removed.
- Howdens' quote includes kidney-shaped pull-outs in the corner cupboard, fitted dishwasher and a free-standing fridge, which were omitted from the quotes by Wren and Magnet.
